Nature therapy – weaving nature into therapeutic work is fundamental to how I practice. Whether that’s taking clients to outdoor spaces in which to work or working with metaphor, nature plays a vital role in my rehabilitation work.

The Problem of ‘Being Indoors’

Our mind and body is not designed to be wired up to technology from concrete boxes for a significant proportion of our day. This typically results in our system ‘overheating’ or ‘burning out.’ Finding ways to develop and integrate a deeper connection with nature offers a cooling effect. It restores us to a more natural way of living. Being outdoors is supportive for our nervous system and can help us heal in a more natural way. Healing in nature brings us clarity and helps us find resolution.

I use the gifts of nature – the seasons, the elements, the beautiful imperfections to enhance healing techniques. Through Shamanic work, I weave the use of the native American medicine wheel to delve deeper into our psyche. Together we can navigate the healing path.

Using the medicine wheel also allows for exploration into aspects of our life where we may still be stuck or perhaps still processing a trauma/loss or adjustment.

Natural environments offer us opportunity to pause and slow down and become more grounded and mindful. We can then move around our lives with intention and purpose. Working outdoors offers a unique experience in which a client can benefit from greater openness and stillness, as well as gentle movement to work through and overcome emotional and physical states of stress/distress.

Nature provides us with a canvas in which to be creative using metaphor and observation of how nature is in a constant state of change and renewal – just like us!
