Meet Scarlett – Counsellor, Therapist and Coach in Lincoln

I am an experienced Person-Centred and Integrative Counsellor working in Lincoln, UK. I have over 14 years experience working in Mental Health, with both a clinical and strategic background. I offer a holistic approach to therapy and healing and it is my belief that the mind, body and soul need to function harmoniously if we wish to 'Thrive.' By taking time in listening to your needs and understanding both your challenges, stories and hopes for the future I can offer a range of therapies that are suited to you and support you to live in more peace and happiness. The natural world plays a significant role in my healing techniques. Integrating this with therapeutic process can bring about much deeper insights and healing.

Professional Background

I began working as a therapist in a newly established Staff Wellbeing Service providing individualised support and intervention to staff. Working on a one-to-one basis, across teams and the organisation as a whole, this experience led me to a more expansive role .

In 2021, I took on a strategic role in the National initiative to deliver Health and Wellbeing Hubs to Health and Social Care staff across the UK. My role involved outreach and engagement with staff working in Lincolnshire in a range of organisations, both public and private sector to understand their unique challenges. Based on these findings, I created a broad spectrum of wellbeing offers; responsive to the needs of approximately 35,000 staff.

In 2020 I also started my private practise ‘Thrive’ – the name resonant with my own perspective on going beyond survival and living to thriving.  Within my practise, I integrate Counselling, Coaching, Clinical Hypnotherapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming and Mindfulness teaching.

Outdoor Therapy

I have also trained more holistically in Outdoor Therapy, Reiki/Energy Healing and more recently qualified as a Shamanic Practitioner. I have a deep connection with the natural world, the plants, environments and animals. Integrating this work with therapeutic process can bring about much deeper insights and healing. I am passionate about working with clients and their whole self. Working purely with the mind, in my opinion, and backed by many others versed in somatic work – provides a limited understanding and progression in self-discovery.

Staff Wellbeing

In addition, I have also provided staff wellbeing initiatives and services to Festival sites in the outdoor entertainment industry. This work has proven beneficial for many staff that work in physically demanding roles, both in time and labour. Providing them with safe spaces for decompression, debrief, rest and reset strategies, while building up better coping strategies. This is a line of work I am currently developing. Health and Safety should not be a policy with an accompanying checklist of basic needs being met. Some staff often spend more of their wakeful hours at work during their week than they do at home with their loved ones. If we want to improve the products, service and experience with an organisation we have direct route into this through its workforce.

Personal

I have been part of a Buddhist sangha (community) for about 9 years. We practice Buddhist teachings and meditation to integrate into our daily lives. It’s important as someone that is in service to others that I take care of my physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual wellbeing. I keep myself active and healthy and commit to practices supportive to my own wellbeing.

Nature and outdoor spaces have become increasingly important to me over the years and offer a therapeutic space for practising mindfulness and creating space in my life to breathe and build a deeper connection with nature. With plants, landscape and the natural rhythms, cycles and seasons. I have also been a keen hiker, mountain and rock climber. Nowadays my pace of life aligns more with forest walks, yoga and plenty of reading, alongside my commitment to my spiritual development.

My Approach – How I am Different to Other Therapists

Having offered traditional therapy for a number of years and then further developing my practice through training as a coach at Masters level, I’ve refined my blend of healing approaches. I’ve identified that to enhance the growth and development of a person, requires developing self-awareness,  building confidence and maximising potential. I believe working in this integrative way supports people and organisations to move from surviving into thriving.

Through my connection with nature I have evolved on my spiritual path. I have trained in Reiki, Shamanic Healing and as an Outdoor Therapist. I weave these into my work with clients when appropriate and relevant to support their own growth and evolution. Time outdoors in natural spaces helps us to re-connect with our own natural rhythms, pace and cycle that modern life can challenge.

I have many years experience supporting clients to return to themselves when life has thrown them off course. My approach is always values led. I often ask my clients what is meaningful to you? What gives you a sense of purpose in this life? And are you currently living in alignment to this? My role is to accompany you to find direction again, build the skills and gather the tools to move forward.

My Personal Journey

My own journey of growing and developing through personal challenges and achievements is my wealth and wisdom in the ‘why and how’ I work with groups and individuals. My commitment to upholding and being led by my values are the backbone to my work. I commit to fostering a therapeutic  relationship in which I practice and meet you with integrity, authenticity, transparency and compassion. I facilitate a journey into accepting who you’ve been, embracing who you are and becoming who you can be. I have a wealth of experience in individual work, group work, creating and delivering workshops and training to teams and organisations.

Shamanic Healing

As we evolve and develop deeper self-awareness and consciousness, some clients can also wish to delve a little further for self-understanding and healing. This is where my work with Shamanic tools and energy healing can dive into the lesser and unknown parts of our soul and essence, identifying where we may be blocked.
